Sacramento County deputies are probing a gun violence incident that broke out on the evening of April 18 at the Howe Community Park area as Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were dissolving a large unauthorized gathering of hundreds of attendees.
Before the Gunfire
Officers from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office were first dispatched to the Arden-Arcade park at approximately 6:30 PM on April 18 after learning of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. Not long after, another report was received mentioning a reported physical confrontation occurring near the park.
An overhead unit scanned the area from the air but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Even so, authorities Arden Arcade Sacramento crime 2026 discovered that a massive group had packed into the park in an unauthorized manner.
When the Shots Rang Out
Responding units moved to clear the area by setting up around the park's perimeter and issuing commands over loudspeakers instructing attendees to go home. About 15 minutes were given for the gathering to break up.
As the crowd was being cleared that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition cut through the air. The barrage of gunfire caused mass panic. Deputies quickly moved to searching for victims.
Four Gunshot Victims
Ultimately, four gunshot victims were discovered with shooting injuries. The four individuals — comprising three men and one woman ranging in age through their in their twenties — were brought to Sacramento area hospitals. Hospital staff indicated that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one sustained moderate wounds, and one had injuries classified as minor. Thankfully, all four were expected to survive.
Sacramento Metro Fire arrived on scene and provided medical assistance the injured prior to hospital transport.
Evidence at the Scene
The center of the incident appears to have unfolded on Cottage Way alongside the Home Depot at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. CSI personnel discovered additional shell casings along Cottage Way. Bullet holes were discovered in the wrought iron fence bordering the Home Depot store. This ballistic evidence pointed to that at least one of the shooters had been discharging rounds toward the south from along Cottage Way toward the Home Depot building and parking lot. That Home Depot location was put under lockdown for a period of time. Crime scene personnel stayed at the location late into the evening.
Suspects Detained
Reports confirmed over police scanner frequencies confirmed that a Kia vehicle had been stopped in Solano County. Four occupants were held for questioning. Law enforcement units were sent to retrieve the detainees to collect the individuals for formal questioning. Video that was reviewed confirmed that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
